Embossing Folders

We love our stash of embossing folders – here are some tips

and tricks for working with them.

2 If an embossed
pattern has come
out patchy or too
shallow, add
cardstock shims to
your sandwich to
apply more pressure
as it goes through
the machine.

1 There are three types of card

  • solid core, white core and
    colour core. Solid core
    works best with deeply
    embossed designs and gives
    a smooth single-colour
    fi nish. White and colour
    core cards are great for
    sanding as the secondary
    shade highlights the pattern.

3 If a section didn’t
emboss well, waste
not want not! Cut
out any good
sections and use it
on a card or hide the
shallow sections with
an embellishment.

4 If you only want to
emboss a portion
of your card, let it
hang out the
bottom of the
folder.

6 Some folders have
a ready-made slit at
the top – this allows
you to emboss a
long strip.

7 If your folders don’t
have a slit, you can
carefully cut one
yourself, but ensure
you leave an inch
on either side so
the folder doesn’t
spilt in two.

8 Cutting a slit is
great if you want a
plain section at the
top of a scene
embossing folder.
Simply feed the
longer cardstock
panel through
the top.

5 Emboss card fronts
directly to save the
cost of layering a
second panel on top.
Simply wrap your
single- or tri-fold card
around the outside of
the folder and run it
through the machine.
