n the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch
Country, Amish families in horse-
drawn buggies still wend their way
along the rural byways as they have
for centuries, though they now share these
quiet two-lane roads with modern-day con-
veyances. Pickup trucks, beds brimming
with fall fruits and vegetables, rumble along
to the Central Market in Lancaster, where
growers have shared their wares since it was
founded in 1730. More than a simple pro-
duce stand, it’s a gathering place for locals
and visitors alike who peruse a wide array
of goods, from ethnic foods and homemade
candies to art glass and handstitched quilts.
Just down the road, cached in a two-story
stone house and its restored barn, an eclectic
selection of home furnishings and accesso-
ries awaits at Olde Mill House Shoppes.
