Enjoy the stark beauty of Japan in winter and visit the Tokyo International

Great Quilt Festival, with the opportunity to visit twice if you haven’t taken it all

in the first time. Visit the colourful Asakusa temple and its thronging shopping

street and also visit a special exhibition of Boro patchwork and clothing. Lots

of opportunities for fabric shopping in Tokyo, Kyoto and Tokushima!

Enjoy the experience of hands-on workshops of traditional Shibori dyeing

including Kyoto’s Itasome-Shibori and Arimatsu’s shibori style and also try

your hand at Indigo dyeing at the historic 400 year old House of Indigo. Visit

iconic Mt. Fuji and nearby Lake Kawaguchi and the famous Kubota-Ichiku

museum where you will find an amazing collection of handmade kimonos.

Travel to Shikoku Island and enjoy its beautiful Ritsurin Park – one of the

three most beautiful landscaped parks in Japan. Take a trip into the country

visiting the whimsical scarecrow village and the remote and haunting Iya

Valley, once home to Samurai clans seeking refuge. Board the famous

Bullet Train and hurtle through the countryside to Kyoto, the ancient and

cultural capital of Japan. We will visit some beautiful World Heritage Listed

sites including the stunning Golden Pavilion. Enjoy delicious Japanese

foods including a Farewell dinner and the option to enjoy a Traditional

Kaiseki meal with the accompaniment of a Geisha. You are also in for a

real treat when we visit a Shinto shrine market which is part of an 800 year

old festival, for some typical festival entertainment and local street food.

As a bonus, finish the tour with a visit to Yoko Saito’s ‘Quilt Party’ shop. A

unique combination of craft, culture and sightseeing.
