Power 50 List, a ranking of the top fifty executives in the logis-
tics and supply chain sectors who are inf luencing and shaping
the future of the industry. The list has largely been quite stable
throughout the five years that I’ve been editing this magazine,
but this year the ranking looks set to change considerably.
Newcomers, disruptors, end-users establishing their own
logistics operations and moving away from 3PLs, are all having
an impact on the industry. It’s in a period of significant and
fairly rapid change right now, and this has been starkly brought
to light during the research for our Power 50.
“Dubai is up there with Singapore and Hong Kong with
its infrastructure and regulations for trade and specialized
fields like e-commerce,” said Dr. Balan Sundarakani, Associate
Professor - Supply Chain Management, University of Wollon-
gong, at the recent Leaders in Logistics Breakfast, hosted by
this magazine. But this is both a blessing and a curse, because it
means the suppliers of logistics services must work that much
harder to keep up with clients’ demands, especially in the e-
com field, the future of retail logistics in the region. Noon.com
is already planning an autonomous delivery f leet for the last
mile in the UAE. Is any UAE 3PL, local or multinational, doing
the same?
