THE SCOTT GENIUS e-Ride 920 is a big bruiser of
an e-mountain bike. It has 29-inch wheels with
2.6-inch tires and 150mm of travel to help you
f loat down hills and over obstacles. Assist comes
from Shimano’s top-end STEPS e-8000 motor
with a 500Wh battery, which lasts for about two
hours while riding in the highest level of assist.

Scott sells the bike in the U.S. with 29-inch
wheels, but the frame also fits 27.5-inch hoops
with tires up to 2.8 inches wide. This version has
SRAM’s GX Eagle drivetrain with a 34-tooth ring,
large enough that you can zip up fire roads and
along open trails in Boost mode—the highest of
the five settings.
But we mostly kept it in Trail mode, a neat
setting on the Shimano system that gives you the
high torque of Boost mode but doles it out more

smoothly. That makes it easier to control the bike
as you skitter through technical terrain.
With lots of travel and excellent suspen-
sion, the Genius lets you self-shuttle downhill
trails so you can leave the truck at home. And
it’s also a great trail bike that helps you cover
more miles, more easily than you might be able
to on an unplugged bike. Either way, the Scott
Genius e-Ride 920 has the power and parts to rip
through miles of burly terrain.—B.L.
