But Moving Closer
W
e’ve still got plenty of work to do, but our
Double Cab S-10 build is moving along
quite nicely. Soon we’ll need to order drivelines
and get a fuel cell plumbed. There’s also the
matter of finishing up the armor and finding a
home for our Warn winch. All in good time.9

- Taking 2^1 ⁄ 2 quarts of fluid, the 4 Speed Atlas calls
for Red Line Synthetic Heavy Shockproof oil. We had
to special-order this fluid from our local parts store.
Given the mix of on- and off-highway adventures we
have in store for this truck, cutting corners on fluid
wasn’t going to happen. - It’s also worth noting that we opted for the sight
tube on the T-case so we could easily check the level
and condition of the fluid. We ended up filling up the
T-case after it was installed in the truck. If you find
yourself in that same situation, we recommend pick-
ing up a manual transfer pump. - One of the reasons we like the cable shifters so
much is that they reduce the hole you’ll need to put
in your floor. It also makes routing and adjustment
much easier. - Kelly Carter, owner of Low Range 4x4, came up
with the excellent idea of building a raised center
console, which would bolt to the S-10’s floor. This gave
us a sturdy place to mount our shifters, and eventually
we’ll add spots for our ARB Air Lockers and compres-
sor switches. We even managed to retain the original
S-10 console lid and drop-in compartment box. We’ll
show you this completed setup in a future issue.
