7-8. The Front Runner
Outfitters Drop Down Tailgate
Table comes with a variety of
mounting holes to accommo-
date the tailgates of many off-
road vehicles. We made certain
our table was oriented level
with the gate and proceeded to
mark four holes for drilling.
- For extra strength, we chose
to use nutserts instead of the
factory hardware, along with
some adhesive foam to secure
the table to the tailgate. So
far, neither the table nor the
sliding wooden extension have
given so much as a rattle on
the trails. - The 4.5-gallon RotopaX
FuelpaX container was designed to fit onto the JK’s
tailgate hinges and reside next to a 35-inch-max
spare tire. - We unbolted the factory hinges from the tailgate,
assembled the mounting bracket using the included
hardware, and made sure everything fit in relation to
our spare tire. In addition to the bolts, we decided
to weld the bracket to the included hinge covers to
eliminate any chance of parts squeaking or coming
loose after many rough trail miles. - By our math, attaching the 4.5-gallon RotopaX
FuelpaX container to the Jeep’s tailgate added 30
pounds of weight and (assuming 15 mpg) roughly 60
additional miles of range to our adventures. Remov-
ing and securing the container is made simple by the
two rotating clamps, but beware, fuel discharge is
painfully slow.
