1988, the year
when chrome
vanished.

“It has now been restored and is
back on the road, CDW934C if you
see it around. We have owned many
buses and campers over the ensuing
years, but the first one is always
special. The newer front driven
buses are so much more car like and
generally better to drive, they are
also very reliable which is why we
rent them out.
“My best experience in a
Volkswagen, has to be driving a
2 litre Viking bay around Eastern
Europe with my brother when the
Berlin wall came down in 1989. We
went to Poland, Czechoslovakia and
the former East Germany where
we even camped right next to the
Brandenburg Gate. I suspect they
probably wouldn’t let us do that now.
“My worst was probably driving
my old splitscreen from Bristol to
Coventry in the winter with no
heaters. It was astonishingly cold
and we actually had to take the
sheepskin covers off the seats and
wrap ourselves up in them to keep
warm. The good old days eh?”
