t’s been a busy time
for us bus wise this
month– including three
consecutive weekends
at very different kinds of shows /
events. First up was the Husbands
Bosworth Festival – a village summer
fayre that has evolved into an amazing
mix of classic and vintage vehicle
show and VW show, with live music,
and even battling Vikings, alongside
traditional village show craft and
produce stalls. This year around
300 vehicles took up the offer of
free camping and were rewarded
by the hottest day of the year thus
far! Informal, laid back and relaxed
were the keywords for that weekend.
Then it was Camper Jam – a totally
different full-on affair that you can
read all about inside next month’s
issue. This is a work weekend for us
and as usual we spent most of the time
on the show / display field, the bonus
being we got chance to meet many of
you and admire your buses! In total
contrast the following weekend was
the Split Screen Van Club’s combined
tech / camping /autojumble weekend,
where you could learn about servicing
and maintaining your Split, or simply
relax and enjoy being surrounded by
classic buses (which is what we did!).
Each event had its own vibe and
atmosphere, and doing all three back to
back brought home to me the amazing
diversity of the show scene and how
different mixes can work together and
complement each other.
This diversity is reflected in our
feature buses this month which include
a stock T3 Panel Van looking like it just
left the factory, a coach-built original
condition Jurgens T2 and a lovely

Samba. This 1967 Deluxe Microbus is
another one of Ron Brown’s buses, but
this one has remained in his possession
since 2000 and since owning it, Ron
has taken it many trips abroad. Our
other Split, also of 1967 vintage, was
originally a Kombi imported to the UK
to be used as a spares bus to restore
another Split. By the time the current
owner acquired it, it was little more
than a shell, which then he restored
on his driveway. The roof was so
badly damaged the easiest way to fix
it was install a rag top! The 1976 South
African built Jurgens is a lovely original
condition example; it even has the full
china crockery set sporting the Jurgens
crest. But for something that that is
totally original and untouched check
out the 1988 syncro Panel Van (a rare
combination in itself). Its new owner
originally bought it to convert, but
seeing the pristine condition changed
his mind and took it to Stanford Hall
where it easily won its Concours Class,
where originality is king. Then there
is a lovely 1968 Deluxe Bay, still in its
original Savannah Beige / Cloud White
paint. The only clue to modifications
and upgrades is in the stance! Our last

offering is a 2016 T6, converted by
Needingworth Campers and used as a
camper, a second car, a mobile office,
and a load lugger depending on what’s
needed at the time.
Also this issue we start a three-part
travel adventure exploring the Baltic
States of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia
in a T3. Empty beaches, amazing
historic buildings, wild camping,
friendly people and great food and
somewhere still off the beaten track for
many tourists.
And now it’s nearly time for the
legendary Busfest – so I’d best go wash
and polish the bus and start packing
ready for another exhausting bus filled
weekend! See you there?
