more of our type of people. Over the next few days we
explored Lithuanias capital, Vilnius. The bus into town
was just a 5 minute walk away. The ‘must see’ places
are the former KGB HQ, which was active until 1991.
In its cellars is a gruesome and partly animated history,
that beats any commercial dungeon visit. Do not take
your children there! It is important to understand how
Lithuania suffered through the decades. The Jewish
district is also a great place to visit along with all the
many historical buildings and markets. We spent half
a day in Uzupis ‘country’, a hipster downtown outpost
that proclaims its own independence. I also spent an
hour train-spotting at the railway station and watched
the huge diesel engine towed Moscow to St.Petersburg
express arrive and depart. We enjoyed Vilnius very much,
the people, the food, the vibe, and it was actually less
touristy than we expected. We ended our stay having
lunch at the TV-tower, its rotating restaurant offers
amazing views, before we drove south, towards the
