We trailed further west through many small villages and along
the border before finally taking the left turn that would eventually
lead us into Poland, from where we headed home. Sadly we
didn’t avoid a breakdown as a good few bolts on the rear-axle
became loosened on the waffle-board like roads. This created
the sort of racket that you don’t want to hear, although after
some retightening all was sound again. Back home we prepared
the syncro for the next journey through Latvia and Estonia, setting
off from Klaipeda again...

Away from the city, the traffic quickly calmed and we
where able to drive on C+D+X roads (X for 4WD only)
until we stopped at the Belarus border.
Over the remaining days we visited Glutas-Park, an
awkward Russian monumental graveyard. It’s a collection
of all surviving yet dismantled statures of Stalin, Lenin
and the other cold war politicians dating back to 1945. A
memorable visit that ended in the parks restaurant for
an inexpensive lunch and beer, before resting at a nearby
lake dreaming of Lenin and asking repeatedly for our
passports...
