(Ron) #1

THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF

DIFFERENT SPECIES.

Over 25,000 to be exact! You can find about 4,000 differentspecies of bees in the United States, including

the

honeybee

and the bumblebee. W

e also want to clear

up

acommon

misconception: Wasps and hornets are

not

bees.

S

OME ARE SOCIAL — OTHERS AREN’T.Bumblebees and honeybees live in
groups called colonies, and they all work together

as

one

hive.

Most

other

species

of

bees

live

solitary

lives,

though

some

of

them

will

build

their

nests

near

other

bees.

(Nests

can

be

found

in

trees,

on

the

sides

of

buildings,

on

top

of

grass,

etc.)

TH

EIR WINGS MOVE

FAST

.

Have you ever wondered why bees buzz? It’s because they beat their wings at speeds

of

11,400

strokes

per

minute.

Accor

ding

to

experts,

the

larger the bee, the

slower

their

wings

beat.

Fun

fact:

Bumblebees

also

make

abuzzing noise when

they land on flowers. They vibrate their wings and bodies to eat pollen.

Trust us: There’s more to

these insects than their

sting!
