A golden retriever has served
as the mayor of a California
town since 2013!
Wave Òhello!Ó to Mayor Max the Second! Six years ago, the golden
retriever became the elected leader of Idyllwild, CA. While most towns
are traditionally run by humans, Idyllwild started electing canine mayors
in 2012. The town held a fundraiser that allowed local residents to run
their dogs and cats as candidates, with every vote costing $1. According
to the mayor’s official website, a total of 16 pets were nominated to run
and the town’s first dog mayor won the election after raising a total of
$31,000 for the Animal Rescue Friends organization!
