a young family (six-year-old rachael and four-
year-old natalie) means trips to the bigger shows
aren’t on the agenda as much as she would
like; however she will be attending a show in
melbourne later in the year.
when asked what is her advice to beginners,
Sam is practical and honest with her answer.
“be realistic with your capabilities. don’t be
put off by what you see, but don’t be too
ambitious either. just break it down into
its basic elements and work step by step.
Persevere. you’ll generally be surprised by
what you can achieve.”
and last but not least, Sam has a word
of warning for beaders preparing to move
house: “keep your beads with you!” Sam
and her family moved from Queensland to
tasmania last year. while giving instructions
to the movers, she stressed that they were
not to pack her beading case, as it was

going to go to her mother’s

for safekeeping. later

that day she went to get

her precious case and

discovered that it had

been carted out to the

truck, and already gone

from their home. it was

the only thing that didn’t

make it to their home in

tasmania, and she is still

fighting the removalists

to find it.
