turnedforherholidaytrip,eventhoughitwastoaVincentmeeting.

Themodernbikealsohasoodlesof 12 Velectrics,fordaytimelight

runninginEurope,andforaGPSthatmightcorrectarouteerroror

findahotelifnecessary.Itis,afterall,timethatPUB,whospenta

workinglifedesigningGPSequipmentandmicrochips,actuallygot

aroundtousingone!

Onewouldthinkthatreliabilitywouldalsobemoreassured–

butonewouldbewrong.ThetripstartedOK,althoughPUBwas

verystressedfrompreparationsforanentirelyunrelatedevent

occurringatthesametime.Nomatter,forithasalwaysbeenusual

toexperiencesomeapprehensionandbutterfliesinthestomach

beforeembarkationforforeigntrips,anditusuallyabatesabitonce

properlyabroad(bridgesburnedandallthat).

That’snothowitworkedoutthistimehowever.Manymiles

towardsDoveritallwentwrong,ormoreexactlyhalfofitwent

wrong.TheGS 500 isusuallyatwin,butceasedtobesoonthe

Run,forthefirsttimesincethe 1960 s.Neverthelessitcompletedthecourse–ascanbe
seenbythesmileonhisface–andalsoreceivedtheHaroldScottTrophyforbestcondition

BigBIGsmilefromAJSMarywhohasnotonlyfinishedherBanburyrun,butkeptto

timesosuccessfullythatshereceivedagoldaward
