ISIS says it was behind
the weekend suicide bomb-
ing of an Afghan wedding
that left 63 dead — includ-
ing women and children —
and nearly 200 others
wounded.
The terrorist group said a
Pakistani ISIS member had
carried out the late Saturday
attack by detonating a car
bomb outside the gathering
in a Shiite neighborhood in
the western part of Afghani-
stan’s capital of Kabul.
ISIS has been behind pre-
vious attacks on Shiites,
who they consider a reli-
gious and political enemy.
Ahmad Omid, who sur-
vived the blast at a wedding
hall known as Dubai City,
said about 1,200 guests had
been invited for his father’s
cousin’s wedding.
“I was with the groom in
the other room when we
heard the blast, and then I
couldn’t find anyone,” he
said. “Everyone was lying
all around the hall.”
The bomb detonated near
the stage of the celebration,
where musicians were play-
ing, and “all the youths,
children and all the people
who were there were
killed,” said Gul Moham-
mad, an eyewitness to the
blast.
The latest bombing was
condemned by local Taliban
insurgents as “forbidden
and unjustifiable.”

President Trump offered a rosy
projection Sunday for the coun-
try’s economy, waving off hand-
wringing that a recession could be
on the horizon.
“I don’t see a recession,” Trump
told reporters as he left his Bed-
minster, NJ, estate for Washing-
ton, DC. “I’m prepared for every-
thing, [but] I don’t think we’re

having a recession.”
His comments echoed remarks
that his top economic adviser
made earlier in the day.
“I don’t see a recession at all,”
Larry Kudlow told “Fox News
Sunday.” “I think we’re in pretty
good shape, and I want to just say,
you know, we should not be afraid
of optimism. What’s wrong with a

little optimism?”
Trump was more circumspect
about the global economy.
“I mean, the world is in a reces-
sion right now,” he said. “China is
doing very, very poorly.”
Trump attributed China’s strug-
gles to an ongoing trade dispute
with the US — as his administra-
tion pushes to ink a restructured

commerce deal with the super
power.
Trump declined to say whether
he’d recently spoken with his Chi-
nese counterpart, President Xi
Jinping, but maintained that a
hardline stance will lead to a fa-
vorable outcome for the US.
“I’m not ready to make a deal,”
he said. Nikki Schwab

Yes, he’s ‘interested’ in buying Greenland

By NIKKI SCHWAB

We’ve got the green if they’ve
got the land.
President Trump confirmed on
Sunday that he’s “interested” in
swinging a deal with Denmark to
buy Greenland, dusting off his
real-estate tycoon bona fides with
an international sales pitch.
“Denmark, essentially, owns it.
We’re very good allies with Den-
mark. We protect Denmark, like
we protect large portions of the
world,” Trump told reporters of
the origin of his flirtation with
buying Greenland, following re-
ports last week that he was inter-
ested.
“Essentially it’s a large real-es-
tate deal,” he said.
“And so the concept came up
and I said certainly, strategically
it’s interesting,” Trump said. “And
we’d be interested.”
Denmark has insisted that
Greenland — a semi-autonomous
Danish territory with its own gov-
ernment — isn’t on the market,
with former Prime Minister Lars
Lokke Rasmussen tweeting that “It
must be an April Fool’s Day joke..

. but totally out of [season]!”
But Trump said Sunday that the
Scandinavian kingdom may want
to reconsider, claiming that hold-
ing onto Greenland was bleeding
the country dry.
“It’s hurting Denmark because
they’re losing almost $700 million
a year carrying it,” said Trump.
“So they carry it at a great loss.
“And strategically for the United
States it would be nice.”
Trump also hinted that he might
swing by Denmark when he pays a
visit to Poland in early September
— but said that such a trip
wouldn’t be in an effort to pry
Greenland loose.
“Not for this reason at all,” said
Trump of the potential Denmark
visit. “But we’re looking at it. It’s
not No. 1 on the burner.”
Trump’s remarks, made as he
prepared to depart his Bedminster
resort for the White House, came
hours after his top economic ad-
viser declined to pour cold water
on the rumors.
“I don’t want to predict an out-
come, I’m just saying the presi-
dent, who knows a thing or two
about buying real estate, wants to

take a look at a Greenland pur-
chase,” Larry Kudlow told Dana
Perino on “Fox News Sunday.”
Kudlow called the situation “de-
veloping,” and recalled how for-
mer President Harry Truman had

also entertained the thought of
snapping up Greenland during his
time in office.
“Denmark owns Greenland,
Denmark is an ally, Greenland is a
strategic place up there,” said

Kudlow, laying out the allure of
owning the largely ice-covered
mass. “They’ve got a lot of valu-
able minerals.”
