Prince Andrew ‘appalled’ by Epstein allegations

The Duke of York has said he is appalled by recent sex abuse claims surrounding his former friend Jeffrey
Epstein. Prince Andrew released a statement after new footage emerged showing him inside the convicted
paedophile’s Manhattan mansion in 2010.

The video, obtained by MailOnline, was reportedly shot on December 6 2010, around the time Andrew was
photographed with disgraced billionaire Epstein in New York’s Central Park. It shows the duke looking out
from a large door of the mansion waving a woman goodbye after Epstein leaves to get in a chauffeur-driven
car.

A Buckingham Palace statement said: “The Duke of York has been appalled by the recent reports of Jeffrey
Epstein’s alleged crimes. His Royal Highness deplores the exploitation of any human being and the
suggestion he would condone, participate in or encourage any such behaviour is abhorrent.”

Owen Jones: ‘political motivations’ behind attack

Owen Jones has said evidence had emerged which “suggests political motivations” for an attack on him
outside a north London pub. Mr Jones, who is a prominent left-wing author and commentator, said he was
attacked and kicked in the head by a group of men in the early hours of Saturday morning in a “blatant
premeditated assault”.

Yesterday morning, the writer said evidence had come to light suggesting the incident, which he described
as a “far-right” attack, was politically motivated. Asked by the BBC if the attackers said anything to him, Mr
Jones replied: “It is very difficult when you’re suddenly on the floor being kicked in the head ... I’ve had
evidence since, which I can’t discuss ... which suggests political motivations.”

The Metropolitan Police said they could not confirm whether they were investigating the incident as
politically motivated.

A woman has died during a police chase after the car she was in crashed. The 28-year-old suffered fatal
injuries when the blue Ford Fiesta she was travelling in struck another car in Crocketts Road, Birmingham,
on Saturday night.

She was taken to hospital where she later died, West Midlands Police said. The Fiesta had failed to stop for
police a short time before it was found at 9.42pm, the force added. A 34-year-old man is assisting officers
with their enquiries.

Power cut hits thousands after power station demolished

Thousands of people were left without electricity after a power station where four workers were killed three
years ago was demolished.

Residents gathered yesterday morning to watch as the last of the coal-fired Dicot A plant in Oxfordshire
was brought down using explosive charges. But just moments after the three remaining cooling towers
disappeared from the skyline at about 7am, an electricity pylon went up in flames.
