‘I Recognize That Monkey!’: Marcel Makes Her FX Debut
While FX CEO John Landgraf was reviewing dailies of the adaptation
of Brian K. Vaughan’s Y: The Last Man, he instantly knew one of the
actors from his days as an NBC exec during the Friends era. “I rec-
ognize that monkey!” he recalled at the FX summer TCA press tour
party, referring to the capuchin monkey known as Marcel, sidekick to
David Schwimmer’s Ross Geller. Turns out, Landgraf was right: Katie
the Monkey worked on both series (changing her gender for each role)
and is in her mid-to-late 20s, with plenty of career left (a capuchin’s
life span is 35 to 40 years). But there’s a hitch. Since Katie filmed the
pilot, Y showrunners Aida Croal and Michael Green were replaced by
Eliza Clark, and it’s unclear if Katie will continue or if she’ll be replaced
by CGI by the time the show debuts in 2020. Still, Landgraf had high
praise for her work: “[She’s] still as good!”— LESLEY GOLDBERG

Unusual Move by Caterer for
Trump Hamptons Fundraisers
In the highly competitive world of
Hamptons catering, one com-
pany, Elegant Affairs, landed
three top functions this week-
end. Two were controversial
Donald Trump fundraisers — the
breakfast at the Southampton
home of billionaire Steve Ross
and a lunch at Sandcastle, the
palatial Bridgehampton home of
builder Joe Farrell — while the
other was a dinner for cosmetic
surgeon Andrew Jacono held at
the East Hampton waterfront
home of Hollywood hairdresser
Sally Hershberger. The catering

move to New York as a morning
program. Now THR has con-
firmed that Access has axed six
to 10 editors. It’s unclear why the
editor team was decimated, but
changes have rippled in the wake
of exec producer Rob Silverstein’s
departure after 20 years (he’ll be
replaced by Maureen FitzPatrick).
A rep for the show declined to
comment. As for Lopez, he’s
expected to start Sept. 9 despite
a recent spate of controversy for
transphobic comments he made
on The Candace Owens Show.

Busy Philipps on What She
Would Have Done Differently
Busy Philipps saw her Busy
Tonight series, which debuted
Oct. 28, killed by E! after just six
months. “We were incredibly cre-
ative and culturally successful,
even though we were canceled,”
she says. “Many canceled shows
are those things. I wish I would’ve
known that I only had basically
six weeks to get the ratings to
where they wanted them [or]
more information from the
network in terms of what they
needed [with] milestones and
ratings.” And while streaming
platforms may be the talk of the
town, Philipps isn’t convinced
pay walls are right for her audi-
ence. “People are going to get
fatigued by all the subscriptions.
That’s a consideration in think-
ing how I would want people to
see my show.” — LINDSAY WEINBERG

service made the unusual move of
contacting the waiters in advance
of the fundraisers to ask if they
had any moral issue with work-
ing the Trump functions. “Many
of the other waiters chose not to
work, but even though I’m liberal,
I thought it would be interesting,”
said one young waitress-actress
at the Hershberger event who
served guests at the fundraisers.
“I didn’t like the fact that there
were MAGA hats, but I was sur-
prised at how nice everyone was.’’

Wave of Editor Layoffs at E!
