2018 SUBARU WRX STI
NAME: PAUL PENG // AGE: 28 // LOCATION: AUCKLAND
OCCUPATION: SENIOR PROJECT ENGINEER / PROJECT MANAGER
NZ Performance Car: Hi, Paul. Tell us what got you into cars.
Paul: Hey, guys. What got me into cars? I don’t know ... the car got into me!
And what was it about this STi that got into you?
During the teenage years, I always loved the Japanese cars, with everyone
having RX-7s, Evos, etc. One of the boys, Nick, had the best-looking blue,
bug-eye STi, and, ever since, it’s been all about the STi for me.
Did you have a goal in mind for this one in terms of modifications?
I did not have a goal because, initially, I intended to keep the STi stock, but I
headed over to Autostance for a new set of wheels. One thing led to another
and the bag option was decided on.
So, you weren’t too hesitant to modify such a new car?
No, I wasn’t. In fact, it was only a month after buying the car brand new that I
bagged it with that new set of wheels. Every choice I made was without regret.
Speaking of bags, why did you go with the bag set-up over the
traditional static coilover?
I love the sound of air being released and the car being dropped down. I would
bag any car any day.
Fair call. Was performance a factor, or were you chasing a certain
aesthetic?
Aesthetics was the main goal. I want to build one of the best-looking STis.
Further performance upgrades will be after the completion of aesthetics.
Lastly, how does the car get used primarily?
It’s not my daily, so cruising and the occasional boosting!
Two very suitable uses. Cheers, Paul.
