NZ Performance Car – September 2019

hen it comes to ostentatious garden parties, the English
are in a league of their own. For many, the combination of
fine champagne on ice and the perfume of burning rubber
would result in upturned noses and snobby stares, but
not for those at the Goodwood Festival of Speed —
England’s rowdiest garden party.
Such is the thirst for that Goodwood automotive nirvana that the 2019

Festival of Speed was pushed out to four days rather than the traditional
three. Usually, it is our very own ‘Mad Mike’ Whiddett — famously known
for his ability to lay down so much rubber that the black marks are only
finally worn off the driveway as he arrives the following year — who flies
the Kiwi flag. This year, however, he had multiple reinforcements: no fewer
than five cars from New Zealand made the trip to scream, showboat, and
shred rubber all the way up the Duke of Richmond’s famous driveway.
