So if you live abroad, you can’t be

British? Other expats might care to

argue with that – DS

Knight time

On reading the editor’s ‘Comment’

in Autocar (24 July), I felt I had to

write in total agreement. Apart from

his enormous talent, Lewis is a great

ambassador. Why has he not been

knighted when ‘ordinary sportsmen’

s uc h a s c yc l i s t s h av e b e e n g i v e n t he

honour, despite certain controversy?

Hoping with your influence this

can be rectified!

Air we go

I took delivery of a new Mercedes-

Benz GLC in March, and Bob

C o sford’s e x p e r ie nc e of bu y i n g h i s

CLS was interesting (Your Views, 24

July). I read the reviews and specified

air suspension rather than the

driving assistance package. I didn’t

tick the ‘no-cost run-f lat’ option.

After collection I noticed run-f lats

were fitted and found the ride quality

w a sn’t a s go o d a s e x p e c t e d. T he

dealer changed the tyres and gave me

a repair and inf lation kit and the ride

was transformed, confirming the

value of air suspension.

Panda isn’t portly

The piece on cars’ increasing girth

w a s v e r y app o sit e (‘D o e s my bu mp e r

look big in this?’, 24 July).

I have a Fiat Panda 100HP as

my run-around and revel in its

narrowness. It was never intended

to be a five-seater so it doesn’t need

to be any wider. Its doors are narrow,

so it’s a cinch to get in and out of in

undersized parking spaces. I fear its

replacement won’t be so ideally sized.

I can already hear the excuse: extra

space is needed for the batteries.
