Cosmopolitan USA – September 2019

(C. Jardin) #1
Overall, my vibe is low
maintenance. Most days,
I just air-dry my hair and
wear it straight and a little
piecey. If I’m feeling extra,
I’ll spritz on a salt spray
to get a lived-in, beachy
texture. And that’s kind
of it. Which is probably
why I’ve only really ever
dabbled in hair spray.
Most important—for me at
least!—is that my hair feels
zero percent stiff. I always

want it soft and touchable.

Of course, some extra
hold here and there would
be nice, but my early
attempts at using hair
sprays resulted in my hair
feeling stiff and crunchy.
Although TBQH, I can
probably chalk this up
to my lack of experience
and...perhaps a tendency
to overdo it on the
spritzing (looking at you,

too, fave perfume!). All this

is why TRESemmé Micro-
Mist is such a freaking
game changer for me. It
holds my natural, loose
waves in place (literally
all day) and shields them
from the annoying effects
of humidity (byeee, frizz).
Maybe best of all, its
superfine mist is so, so
easy to work with—I never
get any random sticky
clumps. Hello, styling
goals! So, yeah, I’m still
just starting to love hair
spray, but I feel like I’ve

already come a long way.

When I was a kid, I
had bangs that my Aunt
Debbie would curl and
tease with a comb—
but that volume wasn’t
lasting through an entire
dance recital by itself.
Cue: the beginning of
my love affair with hair
spray. As I got older, I
continued to play with
different hairstyles—some
long, some short—that all
called for a shot of spray
to either hold my look in
place or keep flyaways
under control. Fast-
forward to most recently,
when I’ve been relying
on TRES Two to keep my
baby bangs blended into
the rest of my look—
I part my hair down the
center, spray TRES Two
to make my bangs lie
flat against my head,
and then slip a flat clip
on each side (they don’t
create creases!) to make
sure zero hairs pop out
of place. As my bangs
start to grow out, though,
I’ll probably switch to a
more flexible or fine hold,
because I’m an equal
opportunist like that.
And while I might break
up with hair looks
every so often (okay,
pretty often), my daily
relationship with hair
spray will always be rock
solid. It’s just been too
good to me (and Aunt
Debbie) over the years.

A newb and an OG talk it out.

So...hair spray?

THE TAKEAWAY

Not all sprays are created equal. If, like Lauren, you’re late
to the hair-spray game, it’s worth trying TRESemmé Micro-
Mist (no crunch, just a flexible hold that leaves you with a
fresh look). If you’re all about that hair-spray life (hi, Carly),
go with an extra-strong option like TRESemmé TRES Two
that locks flyaways and more intricate styles into place.
