FLYING winger Pte Ratu Naulago
(Yorks) will be lining up for Hull FC
again next season after the Super
League club exercised an option to
extend his contract.
The soldier has made a stunning
impact with the Black and Whites,
scoring ten tries in 13 appearances so
far this year.
“I’m over the moon that Ratu is
staying with us,” said head coach Lee
Radford. “He’s been showing nothing
but huge strides in the right direction.”
THE new sea boat fi shing season
got off to a triumphant start as the
Service’s team recorded a victory over
the Welsh national squad on the waters
off Weymouth.
Staged over two days, the match saw
anglers complete 12 hours of fi shing
and the soldiers posted a score of 1,097
points, compared to their rivals’ 1,041.
Nearly 800 fi sh were caught in total,
including rays, gurnards and plaice.
“There are a lot of things to take
into consideration when fi shing from
boats,” said team member Capt Derek
Smalley (Int Corps). “It’s not just a case
of throwing a chunk of bait over the side
and hoping for the best.”

S
TAR player Pte Tade
Carmichael proved to
be the man for the big
occasion as his blistering
form with the bat helped fi re
the Royal Logistic Corps to a
spectacular cup double.
The left-hander (pictured
above) smashed an unbeaten
80 from 43 deliveries to steer
his side to an eight-wicket
victory over the Royal Electrical
and Mechanical Engineers in
the Inter-Corps Twenty20 fi nal.
And he repeated the trick
a day later as the Royal
Engineers were thrashed in the
50-over showpiece.
Half centuries from LCpl
Rome England and Cfn Liam
Fletcher saw the REME post
a challenging total of 172-5 in
the shorter format but a 95-run
stand between Carmichael and
LCpl Dan Tottle soon brought
the target within sights.
Tottle departed for an
expertly crafted 54 but his
partner’s eff orts saw the
Loggies ease to victory with 11
balls to spare.
The top order delivered
again 24-hours later as they
batted fi rst against the Sappers
in the Power Cup fi nal.
Tottle and Capt Tom Frost
posted a fi rst-wicket stand of
84 as the RLC started their
innings in style before both fell
to the bowling of Spr Leo Beal.
But Carmichael proved a
hard man to dismiss and he
struck eight fours before fi nally
succumbing for 58.
Useful contributions from
LCpl Jamie Jevons and skipper
Cpl Denson Narayan helped
the Loggies post a respectable
score of 259.
However, the total was more
than enough as a devastating
opening burst from Sgt Nigel
Stephen (pictured left) left the
Sappers’ reply in ruins.
The pace man ripped
through the top order as their
rivals were reduced to 13-6 and
he fi nished with fi gures of 5-31
from a match-winning spell.
Spr Ravie Gilbert off ered
some resistance in an
entertaining knock of 37 that
included three sixes and three
fours, but when Narayan ended
his cameo the game was as
good as over. ■
