The tiny beach hut seemed to fit perfectly
into the niche of a tiny canvas, so I
used this as a base for my project. The
background was very quick and easy,
simply a wash of blue and beige paints to
give the appearance of sky and sand. This
base layer was broken up by the addition
of roughly applied white paint to soften
the blue, and a layer of sand glued onto
the beige painted areas. I added a few art
stones to give a pebbled look, then glued
in my beach hut!

TIP...
When adding sand (or any
other kind of textural element)
to a background, make sure
the base is coloured to match.
That way, if gaps occur it all
blends in with no white
areas!
