Craft Stamper – August 2019

Q

Do people ever tell you, ‘I could
tell that was created by you
immediately!’? Do you think you
have a signature and recognisable
style?

A

Yes, I do hear that from people
commenting on my cards. I guess
it’s the way I like to ink and create
backgrounds that makes them
recognize my work.

Q

Where do you get your inspiration
from?

A

How do I get inspired? I find
inspiration in challenges, watching
YouTube videos and on Instagram.
I love learning new techniques from
others. I always feel inspired when I
pick up a new stamp set too.

Karen Dunbrook is from Ontario,
Canada.

Q

Do you ever challenge yourself to
craft outside your comfort zone,
and use colours and images that
wouldn’t be first on your list of
things to use?

A

I do like to challenge myself at times
especially when it comes to colour
combos. I need to get better with
that. Trying to think of new ways to
use what I already have is something
I like to challenge myself to as well.

Q

Crafting with a seasonal theme:
which is your favourite?

A

When it comes to crafting with a
seasonal theme, I would have to
say Christmas is my favourite. I love
creating and sending cards off to
keep in touch with my friends and
to let them know that I am thinking
about them.

“I felt inspired by spring’s arrival and all the colour it brings. I wanted to create a
simple collage style card featuring this beautiful flower from Visible Image and by
combining different stamps together to see what I can come up with. I began by
inking up a piece of acetate with Distress Oxides, sprayed with water and pressed
onto my cardstock. I stamped the flower, heat embossed it, then painted the flower
head with more Oxide inks. I stamped the rest until I was happy with the look then
added some stenciling from A Colorful Life Designs to give extra interest.”

Q

What do you do with all your
completed art work?

A

What do I do with my cards? I love
sending them out, giving them away
to friends to use or I like to bundle
them up to give as gifts.
