Marazion Beach,

Mount’s Bay

L

ooking over to the ancient castle
topped island of St Michael’s Mount
you can be forgiven for forgetting
the rather lovely beach on which
you are probably standing.
But look down and around and you
will discover a lovely crescent-shaped
sandy beach of about a mile long and
sprinkled with grassy dunes, cafés and
cabins stocked with every beach accessory
you could ever need. Rather unusually
for Cornwall the beach has a partial
promenade, perfect for a winter walk when
the tide is high or for those with limited
mobility (a car park sits directly behind it).
Marazion Beach sits in front of the ever
popular village of the same name where
traditional pubs, cobble streets and beach
boutiques can be found.
After plenty of paddling, a spot of
rockpooling and a visit to one of the nearby
ice cream stalls (and even a children’s play
park), younger visitors can see if they can
spot one of the circa 150 known wrecks
from the nineteenth century that lay
somewhere in the bay.
And of course as the tide recedes, the
causeway to St Michael’s Mount reveals
itself, enticing you over to the fairytale
mound where subtropical gardens,
medieval buildings and a rather nice café
await. At Marazion Beach, you can enjoy
a full day encapsulating all of Cornwall’s
charms: beaches, boats, ancient buildings,
exotic gardens and a Cornish cream tea
without moving more than a mile.
