ontinuing my series of
photography articles
focusing on the coast of
Cornwall in this feature
I am going to look at the Isles of
Scilly, focussing in particular on
the island of Tresco.
My wife, Sarah, and I visit the
islands most years and have done
for the last 20-odd years. My
initial motivation was to watch
birds because the islands have a
reputation for attracting unusual
migrants in spring and autumn.
It didn’t take long for us both to
fall in love with the islands and
the birds became of secondary
importance.
We were both captivated by the
beauty of the islands. Initially we
enjoyed finding new places on
the different islands then we took
pleasure from seeing the same
places in different seasons. Now
we are old friends and we feel
comfortable and relaxed on the
islands.
Over the years we have stayed
on all of the inhabited islands
except Tresco. This is the only
privately-owned island and
