ew people than artists
and art lovers appreciate
a good view – and the
new home of Stable Art
offers just that.
The much-loved picture
framing business has relocated
from Bodmin to a fantastic
converted chapel on the outskirts
of Cardinham woods. The
bespoke framing and art material
business has now expanded to
include art and craft workshops
which run throughout the year,
fully accessible and a café serving
Illy coffee, sumptuous cakes and
light lunches.
The Chapel grounds extend
almost two acres of mature
trees, bounded by a gurgling
stream. The aim is to create easily
accessible areas for people to sit,
relax and paint.
Stable Art has always offered
a bespoke framing service,
providing quality affordable
framing to the general public,
artists and traders alike. With
the improved workshops and
facilities, Stable Art now has
more choice, more options and
the ability to take on larger jobs.
“We weren’t sure if our customers
would follow us out of the town,”
says David Cowen, co-owner of
the business. “We are now busier
than ever. People are coming
and spending quality time here,
relaxing in the cafe, doing an art
class or browsing art material and
getting their pictures framed. It’s
become quite a ‘destination’.”
David created Stable Art 12
years ago and it was an instant
success. In 2009 Sarah joined

him and together they expanded
the business taking on more staff
and more clients until in 2017
they realised they would have to
re-locate or risk letting customers
down.
“It’s impossible to call a halt
to a service like ours,” continues
David. “You can’t pick and choose
your customers; we felt we had
to find a way to expand further.”
After considering all the options,
the couple decided to purchase
the Chapel at Fletchersbridge,

which as luck would have it, was
right at the end of their drive!
The Chapel sits close to the
A38, the A30 and just minutes
from Bodmin Town. The grounds
themselves are served by a
public footpath which leads from
Cardinham woods right past the
property and on the steam railway
station, Colesloggett Halt. “Its
possible to jump on the train in
Bodmin or Parkway and get off at
the halt, stroll down the hill and
have lunch here in Cobys Café.”
says Sarah. “The café upstairs has
fantastic views over the woods; a
perfect place to stop and have one
of our special salads or famous
cheese scones while watching
squirrels climbing trees or
pheasants in the fields below.”
