Want to go on a real treasure hunt? Today there
are two million people all over the world hunting
for treasure and adventure. They are geocaching.
What is it? Caches are boxes or containers that
come in different sizes and shapes and are hidden
all over the place. Inside the container, you
may find a logbook and pencil along with some
trinkets and toys that people leave to trade. When
you find the cache, you sign the logbook and you
can trade a small something too.
How does it work? A cache is hidden
somewhere by a geocacher. He or she records
the exact location in longitude and latitude
coordinates. These coordinates are shared with
others through an app on a tablet or cellphone,
or on a website.
The next time your family is looking for a way
to spend a day exploring, suggest geocaching. It’s
a great family activity and lots of fun.

THE ART OF LISTENING
The original song artists, birds have recognizable songs and calls. Songs are usually longer and more varied than calls
and they are used for different reasons. Songs are used to attract mates. In spring, birds sing from sun-up to sundown
as they find mates and build their nests. Calls are shorter and act as alarms or signals to keep the flock together. Some
birds, like the woodpecker, use other sounds like drumming on trees to communicate.
