There are four nasal vowels in French though in France, most only pronounce the first three groups and often exclude the
un sound as it so closely resembles the in sound. In Canadian French, all of these sounds are pronounced distinctly. With
an, start by pronoucing the vowel “a” as in aw. The wind comes out of your mouth. Now curve the back of your tongue up
towards the roof of your mouth. Make the same aw sound but make the wind should come out your nose when the sound is
complete. Repeat the same for “o” (as in ohhh) and “i” (as in ai like paint). However “un” isn’t similar to any English sound
and you may benefit from watching the video! Once you’ve mastered the sounds, practice the example words below.
