Young defender
George Johnston to
Feyenoord, Taiwo
Awoniyi to Mainz
on loan. Ryan Kent
is a Leeds target
and Reading want Ovie Ejaria (above).
ALREADY IN: It has been a quiet
summer but goalkeeper Adrian has
come from West Ham as cover and
16-year-old Harvey Elliott has been
signed from Fulham for a fee which
will be set by a tribunal. Dutch
defender Sepp van den Berg, 17,
has also joined.

LIVERPOOL

WHAT THEY NEED:
A centre back.
Juventus defender
Merih Demiral
(right) is a long
shot as is Djene
Dakonam of Getafe.
Burnley and
Bournemouth want
too much for James
Tarkowski and Nathan Ake, but
Leicester have agreed a £20m deal for
Sampdoria midfielder Dennis Praet.
WHO COULD GO: Winger Rachid
Ghezzal has been offered to
Sampdoria.
ALREADY IN: Ayoze Perez signed from
Newcastle for £30m. Youri Tielemans’
loan is now permanent for £35m.

LEICESTER

WHAT THEY NEED:
Their two-window
transfer ban to end
— they will also be
unable to add in
January.
WHO COULD GO:

option for Everton, Izzy Brown is a
target for Stoke, Danny Drinkwater is
wanted on loan at Burnley and

for Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic
(above) has been made permanent
for £22m.

CHELSEA

WHAT THEY NEED:
Midfielder is key
and a centre back.
Danny Drinkwater
(right) on loan
from Chelsea is
possible depending
on wages. A bid has
been rejected for

Dael Fry, who is valued at £15m. Josh
Brownhill at Bristol City is admired.
WHO COULD GO: James Tarkowski is
too expensive, say potential buyers.
Championship sides want Ben Gibson.
ALREADY IN: Centre forward Jay
Rodriguez returns from West
Bromwich for £10m and they have
added Erik Pieters from Stoke.

BURNLEY

WHAT THEY NEED:
Dean Smith wants

A centre back.
Chelsea’s David Luiz
is prime target
after talks faltered
for Dayot
Upamecano of Red
Bull Leipzig and
Daniele Rugani of
Juventus. But last
night they agreed a deal with Celtic
for left back Kieran Tierney (above).
WHO COULD GO: Everton’s £30m bid

City, and have added 21-year-old
midfielder Moussa Djenepo from
Standard Liege (£15m).

SOUTHAMPTON

Chris Wilder wants
a midfielder, but
targeting Leeds
United’s Kalvin
Philips may prove
optimistic.
There is an interest
in Daniel Amartey
(right) of
Leicester City.

Heneghan is wanted by Hull City.

Lukaku’s off to

Inter for £72m

R

OMELU LUKAKU will
complete his acrimonious
exit from Old Trafford after
Manchester United agreed
terms with Inter Milan for
their AWOL striker.
Inter had a third bid of £72million, includ-
ing £12m in bonuses, accepted after a day
of negotiations with Lukaku’s agent Feder-
ico Pastorello in London. The Belgium
striker is expected to fly to Italy and have a
medical today.
It follows Lukaku’s attempts to force a
move this week by training for two days
with his old club Anderlecht in Belgium
without United’s permission.
The player ignored the Premier League
club’s demand to return and has been fined
two weeks’ wages — approximately £400,000
— for his transgression.
Lukaku (right) did not turn up at
Anderlecht’s Neerpede complex,
where he has been training with
the club’s Under 18 squad, for a
third day and the player’s black
Bentley could not be seen at
his house nearby.
Although United and Inter
had until the Italian transfer
window closes on September 2 to
reach agreement, there was a
general acceptance that
the deal needed to be
completed as soon as
possible after Lukaku’s

relationship with United broke down. The
26-year-old was unhappy about United’s
refusal to accept offers of £54m and £68m
from Inter, while a proposed swap deal with
Juventus for Paulo Dybala collapsed last
week.
United have been determined to at least
recoup the £75m they paid to Everton for
Lukaku two years ago.
Lukaku was ordered to train with the
Under 23s by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after he
upset his manager by posting confidential
sprint stats for the United squad on his
Twitter account last week.
The Belgian has missed most of pre-sea-
son and all six of United’s warm-up games
with a mystery ankle injury that has
coincided with his attempts to secure a
move to Italy. After initially indicating
that they would replace Lukaku, United
accept that is unlikely to happen before
today’s 5pm Premier League
deadline.

l

FOrMEr Manchester United
and Uruguay forward Diego For-
lan has announced his retirement
from playing. The 40-year-old moved
to United from Argentine side
Independiente for £6.9m in
January 2002 and scored 17
goals in 98 appearances.

Spurs planning

£80m double

TOTTENHAM will splash out
around £80million for two
players on deadline day.
Spurs struck a £55m
agreement for Real Betis
midfielder Giovani Lo
Celso last night and a
£25m deal for Fulham’s
Ryan Sessegnon is close to
being concluded. The club
are on standby to move
for Sporting Lisbon’s
Bruno Fernandes if they
encounter any problems.
Talks have been taking
place with Fulham all
summer over Sessegnon.
They hope to reach an
agreement today to sign
the 19-year-old in a deal
that will see Josh Onomah
go the other way.
Sessegnon (right) has
attracted interest from a
number of clubs since
bursting on to the scene
as a 16 year-old. But the
idea of working with
Mauricio Pochettino, who
has turned a string of
players into senior
England players, appeals
to him. Spurs have also

been working on deals for
Lo Celso and Fernandes.
Argentine Lo Celso, 23,
was Pochettino’s top
choice. An £88m price tag
for the attacking
midfielder — his buy-out
clause valuation — was a
major stumbling block,
but the clubs came to an
agreement last night.
Spurs have Fernandes on
the backburner and are
ready to move for the
Portugal midfielder if they
need to strengthen
further. Sporting would
want around £65m.
Spurs have held talks with
Juventus over a move for
Paulo Dybala but his
wages and image rights
seemed too big an issue
to overcome. Spurs also
hold an interest in Nice

right-back Youcef Atal, 23.
Christian Eriksen is still
likely to leave Spurs but
will not join Manchester
United. He has promised
chairman Daniel Levy he
will not sign for another
English club. Playing in
Spain is Eriksen’s priority.
Atletico Madrid are keen
but Real Madrid are his
preferred destination.

ARSENAL have agreed
a deal with Celtic
to sign left back Kieran
Tierney. The fee for the
Scottish international,
22, is believed to be
in excess of £25m
and Celtic are now
happy with the
payment structure
after rejecting
Arsenal’s two previous
bids. Tierney is set to
earn in the region of
£80,000 a week.

BENFICA right back
Pedro Pereira, 21, has
joined Bristol City on loan.
LEEDS UNITED defender
Tom Pearce is in talks with
Wigan Athletic. BRENTFORD
have bid £7million for
Amiens forward Saman
Ghoddos, 25. NOTTINGHAM
FOREST are signing
midfielder John Bostock,
27, from Toulouse.
SUNDERLAND want free
agent defender Martin
Olsson, 31.

LEROY SANE’S move
to Bayern Munich has
run into trouble. The
Bundesliga champions are
shocked by Manchester
City’s £135million
valuation of the
forward (left) and the
knee injury he
suffered in Sunday’s
Community Shield is
believed to be worse
than first thought. But
German clubs can make
signings until September 2.
