team. Although City only beat them to the
title by a single point, I felt there was
more to come from that front three, more
to give. The question is : do they have
another gear to find?”
Jenas believes the freakish
stockpile of points secured by City
and Liverpool last season – they won
195 out of a possible 228 between
them – will not be repeated.
He said: “The numbers last
season were ridiculous, but I
don’t see City and Liverpool
needing 100 points to win the
title this time. Leicester,
Everton and Wolves will take
enough points off the top six to
make the table more compact.”

said that, Adam Lallana is back, Alex
Oxlade-Chamberlain is back and that
will give them an extra dimension in
midfield.
“And when you have arguably the best
front three in Europe already in
Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino
and Sadio

JURGEN KLOPP may have to find another
gear from his ‘three amigos’ in Liverpool’s
attack if they are to eclipse Manchester
City in the title race.
Jenas expects last season’s top two to
occupy the Premier League summit again
in 2019-20.
However, he fears Anfield messiah
Klopp has not supplemented his squad
enough in the transfer window to change
the pecking order.
“I can’t see past City for the title, and
the only team who look capable of
pushing them – as was the case last
season – is Liverpool,” said Jenas.
“But to go past City you have to
strengthen and I’m not sure Liverpool
have done enough in the market this
summer to overtake them. Having

Klopp needs more magic from three amigos

TOTTENHAM may not be able
to keep Mauricio Pochettino out
of Real Madrid’s clutches much
longer – and Jenas fears he may
be the next cab off the rank at
the Santiago Bernabeu.
Despite the highest win ratio
(56.2 per cent) of any Spurs
manager in 120 years,
Pochettino, below, has yet to
land his first trophy after five
years in charge.
And ex-Tottenham midfielder
Jenas, who was playing the last
time they exercised the silver
polish in their trophy room,
winning the League Cup
11 years ago, warned: “If
Mauricio gets a crazy job offer

  • for example, if Real
    Madrid came in
    for him, which
    is quite
    possible

    • who
      turns down
      Real
      Madrid?
      “If he
      went there
      and won
      trophies, he
      would be just
      like a lot of other
      Real Madrid managers.
      “But if he could win
      something big at Tottenham, it
would be very special after the
amount of time and effort he’s
      put into building the team.
“If he is going to leave, he
deserves to go with a winner’s
medal in his pocket, but the fact
is Tottenham last won a trophy
in 2008 – and I can remember it
      because I was playing.
      “What I do know, from
speaking to the players, is that
they are desperate to break the
drought – but trophies are not
      easy to come by when
      Manchester City and Liverpool
are as strong as they are in every
      competition.
      “And I know they are
desperate to get that first piece
      of silverware and get that
      monkey off their back. Reaching
      the Champions League final was
great, but they will look back
and wonder if they let it slip
      through their fingers.”
