nepotism kindly. “My
dad is an IAS officer. He
somewhere wished that
his daughter became an
IAS officer too. Nothing
wrong if an actor or
director wants his child to
be part of the industry.”
A
fter dating
rapper
Chaitanya
Sharma for
five years,
the couple tied the knot
in June 2018. “With our
schedules, it was just
getting so difficult to
spend time with each
other. There was a time
when I had night shoots
and he had day shoots.
We wouldn’t see each
other for days on end.
We were hell-bent on
getting married even if it
meant a court marriage.
I DON’T THINK THE MASTURBATION SCENE IN MIRZAPUR
OR THOSE IN MY OTHER FILMS WERE BOLD. THESE ARE NORMAL
THINGS. IT’S JUST THAT WE DON’T TALK ABOUT SUCH SUBJECTS.
WE SHY AWAY FROM THEM
We just had to be
together,” she smiles.
She’s fortunate to have
supportive in-laws.
“They’re confident I’ll
never let them down.
They’ve never questioned
my choices. There’s an
inherent trust. They
understand how much
I love my work and how
sacred it is for me.” She
elaborates, “Acting is an
emotional job. There are
days when you return
from a 12-hour shoot,
drained by the emotional
scenes. There are times
when you don’t want to
talk to anyone; you’re
in your own zone.
You need that support
from your family.” The
‘married actress’ tag hasn’t
affected her career. “After
marriage, work has only
increased. As women, we
impose these restrictions
on ourselves. You’ve got
to be strong-willed and
have a heart of steel. I’m
blessed to have such
supportive families,”
she smiles.
She doesn’t categorise
cinema as multiplex
or offbeat. She’s only
attracted to a good story
and interesting characters.
Finally, she says. “I’ll
naturally be happy if my
film has a massive release
with thousand screens.
But that isn’t my main
goal. My goal is to keep
my audience guessing
and curious about what
I’ll be doing next. Like
the talented Leonardo
DiCaprio, Quentin
Tarantino, or even
Nawazuddin Siddiqui,
who keep the audience
eagerly waiting.”
