STARS IN POLITICS
The Lok Sabha Elections 2019 saw
many stars stand for election. Earlier
this trend of star-politicians was
common only in South India. But now
this trend has gained momentum across India. We
saw hordes of star campaigners like Shatrughan
Sinha, Sunny Deol, Urmila Matondkar, Jaya Prada,
Hema Malini, Moon Moon Sen and Prakash Raj
among others.
Those who won the elections must do something
for the welfare of the industr y, which has never
been given any incentives like lower electricity
tariff, cheaper loans, fixed working hours, safety
norms and health insurance. The most they do is
grant ‘tax free’ status to a few films. The industr y
is already facing threat from the OTT platforms.
It needs support from the government to sur vive.
It’s high time the needs of the industr y, which
contributes massively to the economy and creates
job opportunities, are addressed.

ZERO: A PLUS FOR
KATRINA
In her 15-year-long
tenure, Zero is one
film that has won
glam goddess, Katria
Kaif, critical acclaim.
Though she has several
blockbusters to her
credit, she has finally
won appreciation as
an actor. Maybe, her
personal anguish
and rejection helped
add depth to her
portrayal. Also being

an actress herself,
she understands the
insecurities that come
with the profession.
Zero has been her
highest score till date.

SAME SEX LOVE
Lawmakers in our
countr y took a bold
step by decriminalising
homosexuality. But
only through cinema one
can reach the masses
effectively. Recently, Ek
Ladki Ko Dekha Toh
Aisa Laga broke social
barriers by sensitively
portraying two women
in love with each other.
Sadly, Deepa Mehta’s
Fire, released two
decades back, did
not enjoy much love
from the audience
even though it made a
power ful statement.

KAMINEY TO
KABIR SINGH
Shahid Kapoor’s
upcoming film, Kabir
Singh, promises to be an
intense fare. Movies like
Ishq Vishk, Vivaah and
Jab We Met established
him as the boy-next-
door. But it was his bad
boy avatar in Kaminey
(2009) that catapulted

him to superstardom.
He followed that up with
intense per formances in
Mausam, Haider, Udta
Punjab and Padmaavat.
Haider and Udta Punjab
even won him Filmfare
Awards. Shahid’s Kabir
Singh, the stor y of a man
destroyed in love, will be
a milestone in his career.
