THE OTHER RIDERS

MICHELLE
ARTHURS-BRENNAN
CW’s Michelle, 30, has been
working hard chasing top-10s

THIS MONTH’S GOAL
QTop 10 at a National Team
Series race

Progress report: “I could only make
it to three of the six National Team
Series events. My final opportunity
was at Oakley on July 6. The finish
was chaotic and I had to slam on
my brakes to avoid a late crash, but
managed to launch a second surge
for eighth — mission accomplished!”

UPCOMING GOALS
QEarn cat-1 licence

JAMES BULLEN
Road racer James, 29, is has been
honing his sustainable power

THIS MONTH’S GOAL
QImprove 20-minute power

Progress report: “The season’s
going well: I picked up a win in a
B race, and I’m now focusing on
sustained (20min) power to step up
to cat-two racing, using TTs to focus
on my 400W target. Over the past
month, it’s gone up from 371 to 381
watts, so 19 watts to go!”

UPCOMING GOALS
QPodium in Surrey League
Handicap Champs
QGo sub-4.45 in Ditchling
Beacon hill-climb

I’m definitely capable of finishing in my
goal time of four and a half hours. Usually
in R ideLondon I get to Leith Hill in two
hours in a fast group but then get dropped
on the climb. Who knows, maybe this
year I’ll stick with them. I’m optimistic;
my legs are coming to me at the right time.
I certainly won’t be starving myself to
get down below 99 kilos and risk losing
power; if I get to R ideLondon at 99 or 100
kilos and my power is where it is today,
I’ll be happy.
Being on the CW Fitness Project is
definitely keeping my mind focused and
training consistent — because none of my
friends let me forget about it!

Gareth’s power is on the up
