I

t gives me great pleasure to introduce
myself as the new Editor of MEP
Middle East.
My predecessor, Rajiv Ravindran Pillai,
has left some sizeable shoes to fi ll after
three years at the helm, but I’m looking
for ward to striding out in my own size 10s
and getting familiar with the region, MEP
in the construction sector, and you – the men and women who
make it all tick.
Today’s pioneers of industr y cut ver y different fi gures to their
counterparts of old.
In 2019 there is an emphasis on smart working, collaboration,
effi ciency, and sustainability.
Rewind to days past and those strategies perhaps appeared
only on the peripher y of big business – the irony being that their
successful implementation would likely have yielded invaluable
kudos for any organisation in any industr y, setting them apart
from the crowd.
Employees expect more from their employers now; not just
platforms to advance their own career, but the opportunity to give
their work greater purpose. And employers are responding in
kind.
It’s for that reason my fi rst edition as Editor examines corpo-
rate social responsibility and how the movement is being fostered
across the GCC, particularly here in the UAE.
Despite taking a place on the back burner in recent times as
contractors focus on the late payment narrative that threatens
growth across the industr y, social responsibility continues to take
root in strategic policies across the Middle East.
We’ve also conducted a Special Report into variable refrigerant
fl ow systems and their continued market popularity; spoken with
AESG managing director Saeed Al Abbar about the uncertain
state of the industr y; and even had time to read through some of
the mightily impressive entries for this year’s MEP Middle East
Awards.
I’d advise you to get your submissions in as soon as you can to
be in with a shot of landing one of our coveted prizes; competition
is fi erce and only the most impressive applicants will catch the eye
of judges.
It has certainly been a busy start to life in the MEP Middle East
hot seat, and I look for ward to connecting with you more in the
coming weeks.
