NEWS UPDATE

MARKETS
Recorded sales of three million
units represented a marginal 3.3%
decline for the global heat pumps
market.
A study from construction engi-
neering consultancy BSRIA noted
that while sales jumped 18% in
2017, the 2018 market shrank slightly
in terms of volume.
It also revealed that more than
a third (34%) of all units were ac-
quired for residential refurbish-
ment, while 58% went straight into
new builds.
Aline Breslauer, senior market
intelligence analyst at BSRIA,
said the market suffered from the
slowing Chinese economy in 2018.
She said: “The recent US-China
trade war has put more pressure
on economic expansion, leading to
rising prices on raw materials and a
slower new residential construction
market.”
However, she added that envi-
ronmental measures to reduce CO
emissions have supported the heat
pump market.
Air-source units maintained strong

growth rates, with splits systems
increasing at the fastest pace, +19.1%
by volume, followed by monobloc
(+18.2%).
Air-sourced units designed to

produce sanitar y hot water only
also rose in popularity during
2018, primarily driven by an in-
creased demand from the French
market.

More than a third (34%) of all units sold were acquired for
residential refurbishment, according to research from BSRIA
