Sri Lanka

Palm-fringed Sri Lanka offers
consistent swells between two and
four feet, tropical waters, a friendly
culture, white sands, turquoise seas
and plenty of wildlife in and out of
the ocean.
Although you probably won’t get
empty line-ups, there is something
for everyone – from families and solo
surfers, to beginners and advanced
surfers. Expect to get up at dawn to
catch the glassy waves, then shelter
from the midday sun before heading
out again in the evening.

WHEN TO GO: October to March
AIRPORT: Colombo
LANGUAGE: Sinhalese and Tamil
are the two offi cial languages of
Sri Lanka. Pretty much everyone
speaks some English, too.
RUBBER: None – boardies, bikinis
and rashies.
WATCH OUT FOR: The roads are
insane – buses race each other to
be the fi rst to passenger stops. Be
careful anywhere near them.
EAT: Try the rotis – these fi lled
fl atbreads are delicious and cheap.
