Once the design is finalised, Phillipa and the

team work fastidiously to make dress dreams

reality over the space of eight sessions. An initial

measurement appointment is followed by the

first calico toile fitting, where the lines of the

dress are defined to compliment the bride’s sil-

houette. A further fitting perfects the shape

before the silk is cut, then there are further ap-

pointments before the final flourish – a fitting

held as close to the wedding as possible to ensure

that it’s perfect ahead of the big day.

Book an appointment at one of the twice-

yearly sample sales and you could find your

fantasy dress at a reduced price, with the team

ready to discuss alteration requirements. Though

the designer says she ‘never turns away a frock-

less bride’, the team like to have at least six

months to work on a couture dress. ‘The best

things in life take time,’ says Lepley – and her

timeless dresses are certainly worth the wait.
