Vinyl is back. When Gianni Versace sent out supers
Linda Evangelista, Claudia Schiffer and Helena
Christensen in a rainbow of patent coats in
1994, he triggered a fashion infatuation that
- if Versace’s Pre-Fall 19 collection is anything
to go by – is all about the gloss. Even the mono-
chrome palette at Balmain spoke volumes with
its high-shine ensembles, pairing structured vinyl
trousers with silk jackets. The juxtaposition of
pencil skirts with pillar-box red jackets at Burberry
made for a ladylike interpretation of the trend,
while Prada’s pink and violet shoes are a brilliant
way to slip into the shine of the new season.
Lady Amelia Windsor was among the first to
take the trend to town, spotted in a strapless,
Pepto-Bismol-pink Halpern dress at a Love
magazine party in Mayfair.
