s there anything more lovely than a bunch

of English roses in all their full-blown

beauty? Perhaps a selection of cakes,

exquisitely decorated and hand-finished. What

could be more inviting, or bring a better sense

of occasion to even the smallest of gatherings?

Growing up in the Scottish countryside, Rob

Hedderwick spent his childhood roaming the

rose gardens, scented herb beds and wildflower

meadows of his family home. His love for

botanicals led him to work, self taught, with

the royal florist at the Palace of Holyroodhouse

in Edinburgh before moving to London to

work with some of the city’s leading florists.

But his affinity with flowers was matched by a

passion for patisserie. Having trained at Le

Cordon Bleu in London, he created traditional

gâteaux, such as petit fours, macarons and

millefeuille, in spells at the Lanesborough

Hotel in Knightsbridge and the Michelin-

starred Yauatcha in Soho. Eventually, he
