COUNTRY GARDENS // FA LL 2019

LEFT Original to the
property, this cozy shed
once housed the workshop
for a previous owner.
Elizabeth turned it into a
seasonal shop fi lled with
shabby-chic furnishings
and vintage jewelry.

BELOW Morning sun
provides ideal light for a
rich palette of perennials
in the backyard, where
asters, conefl owers, bee
balm, and salvia cast an
enchanting spell against
a verdant backdrop of
Cleveland pear trees and
fl owering shrubs such as
lilacs and hydrangeas.

Pink plays a leading role
in the rose garden just
outside the sunroom.
“It’s a quintessential
Victorian color and it
goes great against the
green of the house,”
says Elizabeth. A
wrought-iron bench
and brick pathways
encourage guests to
linger in the garden.
