Mystery over
infestation of flies
An entire Devonshire village is battling
a mysterious invasion of flies.
Residents of Feniton say their lives
are being made a misery by a fly
infestation which has plagued them
for five years – but is currently worse
than ever.
Carol Lockwood, 76, said: “You can’t
lay in bed without being woken up by
a fly landing on you. They are
everywhere. I reckon I get 60 to 70 a
day in my home. It’s not just the warm
weather – it happens all the time.”
Fellow resident Steve Loader, 48,
has noticed the problem has got worse
since March. “You have to keep all
windows and doors shut to try and
keep out the flies. It’s like being
trapped in your own home,” he said.
East Devon District Council has
offered no explanation for the
infestation and has advised villagers to
put sticky fly catchers in their homes
which they can send to health officials
for laboratory analysis.
