In August, many of Hollywood’s finest
decamp to holiday in The Hamptons –
a collection of low-key seaside villages
strung along Long Island’s dune-backed
sandy coastline.
Summertime traffic along the 120-
mile route from New York is often
bumper to bumper, so celebrities drop
in by helicopter or private plane! Sarah
Jessica Parker, Jon Bon Jovi, Beyoncé
and Jay Z all have homes there and
you’re bound to spot a famous face or
two during the summer social whirl of
polo matches, art exhibitions, music
recitals and cocktail parties. Long Island
is a beautiful place to visit at any time
of year with charming inns, wineries,
seafood shacks and stylish restaurants.

WHATARETHEMUST-DOACTIVITIES?
The island’s North Fork – a slither of land that juts
into the Atlantic – is a patchwork of farms and
wineries. OK! paid a visit to Kontokosta, not only to
taste their lovely wines but also to enjoy the sleek
and modern winery’s stunning location overlooking
Long Island Sound. While you’re in the North Fork,
stop off at Love Lane – a pretty shopping street
lined with tempting food stores and boutiques.
For art lovers, take a tour of the Parrish Art
Museum in Southampton in South Fork, where
you’ll find over 3,000 modern artworks including
some by fabled abstract artist Jackson Pollock
who lived on the island. Nearby Southampton Arts
Center is also an interesting place to visit.
For some glitz and glamour, head to the Garden
City Hotel, which boasts an illustrious guest list
including Kevin Hart. Dine at the hotel’s new King
Bar restaurant, created by US celebrity chef David
Burke, where our lobster salad was simply delicious.
Also, leave time for some pampering at the Red
Door Spa, where popular treatments include the
Oxygen Infusion Facial.
For breathtaking and endless views, head east to
the iconic Montauk Lighthouse.
