Cleaning hair tools is simple and
straightforward. Unlike makeup
tools, they don’t have too much
residue but you should still clean
them frequently – once every
10 days or once a week if your hair
sheds a lot.
If you use products that leave
residue, like gel or oil, clean brushes
or combs every three days.
STEPS
1
Use your fingers to remove hair
from the comb. Use a comb to
remove hair from a brush so you can
gently get the hair off the bristles.

Wide-tooth combs are easy
to clean because there’s lots
of space in between the teeth.
Simply put the comb in soapy
water and rub your hand over it.
To clean combs with small gaps,
use an old toothbrush.
To wash a hairbrush, place it in
soapy water and run a comb through
until there is no hair left on the brush.

Run both the comb and brush
through running water to
completely remove the soap.

themupsidedown.
Don’tdrythemfacingupbecausethewater from
thebristleswillgoupthehandle,whichcandamage
itespeciallyifit’sa woodenhandle.
Makesurethebristlesofbrushesarestraight
whendryingthem.Iftheydrywhenbentthey’ll
probablyremainlikethatuntilyouwashthem or,
evenworse,theymayneverreturntotheir original
shape.
Neverstoreyourbrushes
withbristlesfacingdownor
squashedbecausethiswill
deformthemandmakethem
useless.Storethemuprightor
flat.
Thecontaineryoustoreyour
brushesinshouldbeatleasthalf
thelengthofyourbrushes,but
notlongerthanyourbrushes.
Ifit’stoosmallyourbrushes
mighttoppleoutandifit’stoo
longyouwon’tbeabletoget
yourbrusheseasily.
Becausehairbrushesand
combsaresturdierandmore
resilient,youcanstorethemflatin
a basketorfacingup.
Justdon’tsquashthemina tight
spotthatwilldeformthebristles.

Nomatterhowwellyou
lookafteryourmakeup
tools,you’llhavetothrow
themouteventually.
Hairbrushesandcombs
maylastlongerthanmake-
uptools,buttheystillget
damagedbyhairdryers,
straightenersandgeneral
wearandtear.
If yourbrushorcomb
doesn’tproperlyremove
knotsandtanglesanymore
andinsteadsnagsonyour
hair,thenit’stimetolet
it go.
Chuckyourmakeup
brushwhenthebristles
startfallingoff.
Youdon’thavetothrow
it awayif it’sjustone
bristlehereandthere,
butif you’velostmore
thanfiveduringoneuse
