(TheAlavesaBonsaiAssociationinSpain),
whichistoexhibita singularandveryper-
sonalselectionofmytrees,inlinewith
myconceptionofbonsaiandmypercep-
tionofnature,awayfromtheformalismof
Europeanbonsaiexhibitions.

otherexhibitionlocationsforbonsai
thantheusualvenues?
D.B.:I thinkthatbonsaimustbetakenout
of the cupboard. There are good artists
whose work is worthy of being displayed in
locations dedicated to art – in large, pres-
tigious European museums, for example.
I  could easily see my trees there ... �

A devotee of ishizuki, David Benavente has grown a
Scots pine over a Japanese stone from Kurama, which
is accompanied by quince, rose bushes and fern.
