Get trained

with Daf
Daf has launched a new Driver
Training Voucher scheme.
Included with CF and XF trucks,
the new initiative encourages
operators and their drivers to take
advantage of a professional
introduction to their new trucks by
one of the team of regionally-
based Daf dealer driver trainers.
Importantly, the vouchers retain a
three-month ‘shelf life’, allowing
operators the flexibility to choose
the best time for the training.
On acquiring their new CF and/
or XF vehicles, all retail customers’
drivers will be entitled to
professional driver training courtesy
of 25 of these dedicated driver
trainers located throughout the Daf
dealer network. Training, about 2½
hours in total, includes in-cab and
vehicle walk-round familiarisation
followed by on-road tutoring.

Obituary – Alan Leighton
It is with deep sadness that
we report the sudden death
of Alan Leighton, aged 66.
Alan passed away during
the first week of April 2019
and a service to
commemorate his life was
held at Llanelli Crematorium
on 17 April. He was given a
fantastic send-off and
transported to the service
on the rear of his beloved
Austin FK40, driven by his
nephew, Josh, accompanied

by a convoy of 12 trucks.
Alan attended many
shows in the Austin, which
was discovered in a barn in
West Wales during the late
1980s, Alan and Josh
restoring it to its present
condition. Alan will be
greatly missed by his family
and former work colleagues
and friends. He leaves a
great legacy within the
West Wales trucking family
and many lasting memories.

ERF, wind

and tyre
We don’t usually cover vans in T&D but
we’ll make an exception for this awesome
MAN TGE of Eagle Tyres, Oswestry.
The van is driven by tyre fitter Tom
Southerton, who told us about the
airbrushing, completed by KD Designs. It
details the trucks of fellow Oswestry firm
B&C Transport Services, with old ERFs
leaving Birkenhead “back in the day”.

Dan MacKenzie has run the
two trucks pictured right for
many years on the show
circuit, raising funds for
charity along the way. He’s
putting them up for sale.
“My 1990 Peterbilt 379 has
Elvis murals on it and my
1998 Renault Magnum
shows American Indians
[‘native Americans’ for the
politically correct].
“We’ve done a lot of
charity work – John o’ Groats
to Land’s End for Macmillan
Cancer and the local lifeboat.
We also did round the coast
of Ireland and visited all the
lifeboat stations in the north
and south. When we go to
shows we always have our
charity boxes out.
“I am now thinking of
downsizing, as I’m 79 this
year and it is getting harder
to get ready for shows and
travelling as we live near
John o’ Groats. Would you
know anyone who would be
interested in buying them?”
If anyone fancies either of
these iconic trucks, get in
touch with us and we’ll pass
on your details.
