Truck & Driver UK – July 2019

(^62) July 2019 Truck & Driver
FODEN & ERF
wasn’t the easiest thing
to take apart,” explains
Cam. “Lots of stuff broke
and it was hard to source
replacements, so plenty of
fabrication work was needed.”
The chassis was given a full
shot-blast, the cab got painted, a
new fuel tank and cat walks were
installed, and an impressive set
of twin Eminox stacks were fitted
by ERF operator and expert
Turners of Hoole.
Power boost
The engine is a Cummins M11
rated at 405hp, the innovative
Celect engine management
system boosting the power to
440hp when required.
With air suspension on the
cab, the ECX offers a surprisingly
refined and modern driving
experience – helped a lot by the
fact it’s been so scrupulously
restored and everything is tightly
screwed together.
You can see ERF was on the
right track with the truck, even if it
didn’t get the opportunity to fully
develop it to its potential.
Cam has attended plenty of
events with the truck, mostly
alongside Oliver’s Foden.
Newark, Kelsall, Llandudno,
Gaydon, Full of the Pipe and
Convoy in the Park were all
ticked off the list in 2018, along
with loads of road runs. It looks
like there’s more of the same in
store this year too.
Plenty of creature comforts in the Alpha XL cab
ECX now looks a little dated inside but there’s tons of room; it’s comfy too
The team: Chris Parry is second left, Trevor Parry fourth from right, Louise Parry second right
