IT’S RUBBERY!
Here in the USA, we are fortunate to be
able to shoot FAC rifles. For target
shooting, I use a simple and efficient pellet
trap that your readers should find
interesting and easy/cheap to build. Steel
plates cause too much noise for backyard
use, but filling a box with rubber mulch is
very quiet and will stop even many of our
big bores. The shredded pieces of rubber,
used on playgrounds around swings and
climbing frames, can be purchased at any
home improvement store over here for
around $6 per bag, and one bag is plenty.
The pellet impact report into the box filled
with rubber mulch is only a dull thud.
Once the box is shot up, pour the rubber
mulch into a new box. This is a very light,
portable, reusable and very quiet target
holder – and quiet is of the utmost
importance when shooting in your
backyard. Give it a try.
Keep up with the great gun reports.
Your journalist reviews are so good, I want
to buy every one, but also include whether
the particular model comes in an FAC
version for us power-hungry Americans!
MIKE LYONS

Thanks
Mike, that
rubber mulch
sounds like
just the stuff
for packing a
backstop. All
we need do
now is find out
where it’s sold
over here.
Over to you,
readers! – Ed

A MAGNIFICENT
EFFORT
I didn’t think that a photograph
would do justice to the beauty
and sheer craftsmanship of my
homemade shooting range.
Most people who see it are
struck dumb with admiration,
and, dare I say it, jealousy, so
I have made a small drawing
which should convey the
flavour of my project. You
might find it hard to believe
that I am not a professional
builder or carpenter, but just
a gifted hobbyist. I have
taken the liberty of
highlighting some of the
items of particular interest, and I should add,
that if any readers want to copy my designs
they should feel welcome to do so.
I don’t know if this entry will qualify for the
prize, but as they say, some things are better
out than in.
CHAS LAMOND
(aged 65 and a half)

What a splendid rendition, young Chas,
although I fear you may have understated its
magnificence. No wonder so many are struck
dumb! Imagine the entire Airgun World
readership standing and applauding. – Ed

Meet Mike Lyons. He’s had a great
idea about backstop stuffing.

Chas has set the standard; the rest of us can
only do our best to reach it.

AIRGUNNING IS THERAPY
Two years ago I was in a pretty miserable
place and was diagnosed with depression at
the age of 38. This reached a point where I
was actually self-harming and becoming more
and more withdrawn. My wife then came
home with an Airgun World magazine, and
suggested that I got back into something I
loved. This marked a significant turning point
for me, and I started going to a local club twice
a month. Everyone, without exception, was
friendly and welcoming offering advice and
just being nice to talk to.
Over time, my confidence grew, my
shooting became better and better, and I
found that shooting offered me a place to go,
to meet and talk with friendly people and also

calm my mind, taking away all the negativity.
I am now 40, and with a handsome rifle
collection, but this is only topped by the even
more impressive collection of people I have
met over the last two years and who are now
friends, all of whom have helped me to
overcome the worst. So to them, my wife, and
to shooting I thank you for turning my life
around.
ROGER HENDERSON

Fantastic news, Roger, and well done to you
and everyone involved in your new direction.
I’m a great believer in ‘airgun therapy’ and
direct endorsements such as yours prove its
effectiveness. All the best from me and the
Airgun World team. – Ed
