THE GREAT thing about the summer is leisure

and recreation – Wimbledon, Ascot and ...

Tottenham Hotspur, although I reckon

Populous will have seen enough of the mighty

Spurs stadium since giving birth to it in April.

It’s a massive project that will have, no doubt,

required blood, sweat and tears from all

stakeholders to drive it to becoming the overwhelming and

beautiful global landmark. For those like myself who don’t follow

football it is a breathtaking achievement that this stadium is built

on the same White Hart Lane site as the original one from 1899,

a few years after the club launched. That comprised a shelter for

2,500 spectators, when stadia requirements were Spartan and

simple. God knows, you designers would have had an easier time

back in the day...

Talking of progress, FX continues its features on what radical

thinking means to you, and this month Yorgo Lykouria makes for

a great read with his inspirations spanning films, music, art and

architecture, and including Miles Davis, J S Bach, Gaudi – and

indeed his daughter. It’s a great read!
